The Show Must Go On...



...But why?

In the wake of a tragic event that took place just outside the Chiefs facility a football game was played. The Panthers took on the Chiefs in Arrowhead just 24 hours after one of the Chief's player's (Jovan Belcher) shot his girlfriend (Kasandra Perkins) and then took his own life. All the while in front of the coach (Romeo Crennel) and the GM (Scott Pioli).

I understand the show must go on theory, but why this soon? Why must we force people who are in the midst of grieving go out and play a meaningless football game? There are members of the Chiefs organization that will be traumatized for life due to this catastrophic event. Can we forget about revenue for one day? Can we forget about the few selfish fans who would be outraged if these millionaire athletes took a day off? We're talking about human life and those who had to witness the most horrifying nightmare of their entire lives. You wouldn't show up to work the next day, and you know what...no one would blame you.

Certainly death can galvanize players, we saw it this year when Torrey Smith lit it up only a few days after his brother passed, we've seen it with Brett Favre on that epic Monday night game against the Raiders after his father died. Even the Chiefs pulled out a victory yesterday in the wake of they're tragedy. Death, and the coping of death is a very powerful thing. But in my opinion, stepping out on to a football field just 24 hours after a player not only took his own life but his girlfriend's life as well, to me just seems a immensely trivial and incredibly distasteful.

Things Change

When I woke up this morning it was approximately 60 degrees in my apartment. Now, I sit here in my sweat pants, my long sleeve shirt, with a thermal/micro fiber (not sure if that's accurate) blanket over top of me, and I'm sweating my ass off...

At the end of every year I find it imperative to reflect on the year I've had, for better and for worse. But, more importantly, I spend a lot of brain power on how the next year can be even better. I think about what I can improve on and what I'd like to accomplish, so that when I reach the end of the year I can look back and say, good job. I believe most people call these revolutions. I take them rather seriously, I've always prided myself on my ability to conquer and achieve the goals I set out for myself. Of course, now that I'm getting older, I tend to forget my goals come October/November, but luckily I have a keen vision for the future and decided to write down my goals for 2012 at the end of 2011. Here they are...

2012 RESOLUTIONS:

IMPROVE THE IMPORTANT PARTS OF YOUR LIFE

FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS, FRIENDS, MY RELATIONSHIP WITH HEATHER, RADIO SHOW PREP, FITNESS/HEALTH

GOALS:

- RIDE THE RED ROLLER COASTER

- WRITE AT LEAST 50 BLOGS

- ALL NECESSARY INCOME THROUGH SPORTS RADIO/BROADCASTING

- GO TO 4TH WRESTLEMANIA   Lets review shall we:   My relationship with my family members was never a poor one so that didn't need much work, my friends are the same way. My relationship with Heather ended (though some would say, that was an improvement), and I will say radio show prep along with fitness have improved.   My goals. Never rode the red roller coaster. This is the 2nd or 3rd blog I've written in 2012. I still bartend on the side of my radio career. And I don't even watch wrestling much anymore.   I sit here in my long sleeve shirt, under a blanket that is too warm.  

It's funny how things change.

Jefferson's vs Titanic

Week 1 of the preseason provided a lot of insight into what we can expect from certain guys in the world of fantasy football. So, in lieu of the change in perception and rankings of certain individuals, I have come up with 2 divisions that express where I think some players are headed as far as fantasy value is concerned.

The 1st division is the Jefferson's division, which means that the players listed below are movin' on up my rankings list.

Jefferson's:

1. Donald Brown - Andrew Luck will get all the credit for that 63 yrd TD pass but he didn't none of the work for it. Luck dumped the ball off to Brown who took it to pay dirt. Got to love that play, especially from a guy who doesn't have much competition in that backfield to begin with.

2. Julio Jones - I was already high on this guy, he's got all the talent in the world and if he stays healthy its hard to imagine him not improving his #'s from his rookie season. Add to that, 6 rec. 109 and a TD in one half of preseason action.

3. Pierre Garcon - This guy might end up being one of the best values on draft day. Garcon is currently ranked around 30th for WR's. Are you kidding me?! This guy started to light it up towards the end of last season with Dan Or'freakin'Lovsky as his QB, now he has the marvel out of Baylor RGIII throwing him the ball. Fantasy gold. RGIII showed in the Redskins first preseason game that he plans to rely heavily on his french teammate.

The 2nd division is known as the Titanic division, because these guys are going down!

Titanic:

1. Shonn Greene - Greene is one of those guys that has all the opportunity in the world but doesn't do much with it. Last year with an aging LT in the backfield with him, he still had a hard time pulling away. Yeah he had 1,000 yards rushing but he only had one game with 100 yrds rushing last season. The Jets do run the ball a lot and I was starting to buy in to the Greene hype for the first time...but the fact that Tebow lead the team in rushing after that first game just shows me that nothing will change. Shonn Greene will be depressing and frustrating fantasy owners all year long.

2. Cam Newton - As much as I hate to say this, because I've been a huge Cam Newton guy. I'm afraid he will regress more than people think this year. I still think he's going to be great over his career but as far as this year is concerned I see defenses really keying on stopping him and flustering him in every which way. He'll still put up #'s and I'm not shying away from him in drafts, I'm just thinking of moving him from a 2nd rounder to a 3rd or 4th rounder.

3. Larry Fitzgerald - I LOVE Larry Fitzgerald.  But I HATE his QB situation. Right now, if you want Fitz, you have to spend a 2nd round pick on him. He's generally the 2nd or 3rd receiver taken in most drafts. For me, there is NO WAY I'm spending that early of a pick on anyone who relies on John Skelton or Kevin Kolb. If you watched the Hall of Fame game you probably agree with me. Fitz is one of the best talents if not the best talent at WR in the NFL but as of right now I'm taking Andre Johnson, Greg Jennings, and AJ Green ahead of him.

Sunday's 3 Things

1. I get the feeling that the Magic will be handcuffed by Dwight now more than ever to make a deal that is not favorable to them. I was a strong supporter of trading Dwight to the Rockets for a multitude of draft picks. With Rob Hennigan - young, driven, and looking for a fresh start..I felt as though acquiring draft picks was exactly what the Magic needed to start the rebulding process and put the emphasis on START the process because, yes, it would be a process. Now Dwight is claiming the Magic "blackmailed" him and blah blah blah..That trade to Houston is looking pretty good now isn't it? (Houston wound up with University of Connecticut guard Jeremy Lamb, Iowa State forward Royce White and University of Kentucky big man Terrence Jones at 12, 16 and 18 respectively.)

2. Why would Steve Nash finish his career in Toronto? I understand he's Canadian but come one dude, eat some bacon and go play for a real team. What a terrible way to finish up an extremely illustrious career. Do you really want to spend your final days in the NBA passing the ball to Andrea Bagnani? C'mon Steve, make the right call.

3. Erin Andrews is out at ESPN. The most disappointed person (besides me) has to be the kid who just signed on with a big time college program, who was already prepping himself for how to talk to such a beautful woman with the cameras on and not fumble all over yourself. That kid was excited. And I feel bad for him. Oh and p.s. Jenn Brown is the obvious replacement.



Friendly Neighborhood Tebow

After a gritty, gutty, stunning performance like what we saw on Sunday it's easy to decide to right your one blog of the week on Tim Tebow. So..thats exactly what I'm going to do.

Everyone wants to point to Tebow's faith and declare divine intervention everytime he wins a game. I do believe that his faith helps him overcome adversity inside of his own mind and that can be very powerful, but I can't say I'm a believer in a higher power helping the Broncos to victory. No, what this Tebow saga (and it is a saga) reminds me of is a good old fashioned comic book. This story has all the characteristics of a classic comic book super hero story:

A kid no one believes in shows remarkable - un human like talent and power and while revered by some, he is considered an outcast by many. Seemingly hated just for being different.

Everyone has chosen a side. Either you are with him or you are against him. Truely, the name Tebow is polarizing and evokes emotion out of everyone whether that emotion is positive or negative. Everyone has an opinion and no one seems scared to announce it.

Just like a super hero he is dominant at times but often finds himself in hot water, up against a force greater than him. Nothing ever comes easy, turbulant ups and downs build his character and test his will.

Tebow with help from the Broncos won 6 straight but then lost their final 3 heading into the post season. Then when the Tebow's seem like the most improbable of Wildcard weekend winners in the NFL...Tim puts his cape on and summons just enough power to take down the mighty Pittsburgh Steelers, the perennial bully in the AFC and current champions of the conference.

Now, as if the story couldn't be written any more perfectly the hero must face the man who created him and the evil genius all in one epic battle.

After Bill O'Brien (Patriots former offensive coordinator) was named the next head coach in Penn State the Patriots brought in a former employee, Josh McDaniels. McDaniels is the man who traded up in the draft as head coach of the Denver Broncos to take Tim Tebow in the first round of the 2010 NFL draft. McDaniels essentially created the level to which Tebowmania is at today . McDaniels seemed to be the only coached with the confidence in Tebow to say we can build a team around this guy. That fact added fuel to the fire, and the doubters (me included) had enough ammo for any Tebow arguement. Josh was eventually fired for his vision and now he is back on the team Tebow faces this Saturday in the Divisional round of the post season. Very few have the faith in Tebow that McDaniels has, very few have the respect for Tebow that McDaniels has, and most importantly no one knows Tim's game like McDaniels does. Creator vs Project. And if that weren't enough Tebow is going up against one of the great minds in the NFL (Bill Belichek) and one of the greatest QB's in NFL history (Tom Brady). The Pats haven't lost a game since week 9 and the last time Tebow went against New England was week 15 when the Broncos lost 41-23.

Teach Me How To Jimmer...

LeBron's 4th Quarter Hightlight Reel

I guess Greg Doyle was onto something when he asked LeBron why he has been disappearing in the 4th. I'm watching this game last night and I find myself squinting at the TV.."Am I missing something? Where is LeBron? Is he in the game?" He was...barely. 8 points in the entire game, 0 in the 4th. LeBron, you can't EVER be considered the greatest when your talents dissipate at the end of the game the way that they did in Game 4. Is he still better than Jordan? That one was for you Scottie--LBJ has gone 3-12 in the 4th quarter this series, a painful stat if your a Heat fan or if you were one of these people that claimed this wasn't Wade's team. Wade scored 32 btw...I'm thinking the newest NBA Finals talking ball commercial is going to be a basketball in the middle of the court screaming "LeBron! WHERE ARE YOU?!"
